mpvToday, many people travelling abroad opt to hire a people carrier as a preferred method of getting around. When you’re hiring a people carrier, you need to think about the number of people in your party and amount of luggage they will be carrying. With the price of fuel at an all time high, consider hiring a diesel vehicle as this will reduce your overall cost hugely.

Please remember that if you want to get the best price on a people carrier hire you should book your vehicle well in advance. Car hire comparison websites are available for you to check people carrier rental prices, so you have no excuses if you don’t hire before you fly. The devil is in the detail, so as you do your research make sure that you read all the small print. There are plenty of catches for the unwary particularly when it comes to fuel policy so make sure you know what your suppliers policy is.

Many car hire companies charge excesses of €2000, so please ask about this and think about taking insurance cover on this as well. Read on to discover a selection of the people carriers and MPVs, SUVs and minivans you can expect to find available for rental at most locations across Europe and beyond.

Citroen C4 Grand Picasso – Triple “MPV of the Year” Winner.

Without a doubt one of our favourite MPvs is the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. It can pack seven people in with all the luggage without any problems and it’s a nice overall experience for driver and passengers.

There are automatic and manual options available and petrol and diesel engines to choose from in the Grand Picasso range. The suspension and ride feels a bit spongey in comparison to other MPVs, but it’s a comfortable cabin experience for those inside. The Grand Picasso, all things considered, is a very comfortable, versatile peple carrier, and once you are used to the feel of the vehicle you will enjoy driving it.

For people renting the Grand Picasso to go touring around, the comfort levels are really second to none. Some clever boffin has invented a fantastic seat mechanism that converts the seats in almost any formation you want. Legroom and headroom are good overall and there is better than average luggage capacity even when all seven seats are in use.

Fuel economy is startling for the grand Picasso with tales of 60 mpg not unheard-of in the diesel models. In summary, there are very few people carriers out there that can match the Grand Picasso for comfort, reliability and economy.

Ford Galaxy – 7 Seater People Carrier.

If all you’re looking for is a comfortable, luxurious, reliable seven seater car hire, then look no farther than the Ford Galaxy. There’s a feeling of roominess inside the cabin, similar to a minivan and yet the Ford Galaxy drives like a normal car. It’s a very versatile vehicle, seeking seven adults no problem, and yet capable of folding away seats to transform into a van to all intents and purposes. It may not be the best looking MPV you can hire but don’t be fooled, this is a great people carrier to drive.

It drives and rides like a much smaller car, the driver position is good and the Galaxy is responsive and surefooted. The entry-level specification models are still very decently equipped, with electric windows and air conditioning standard. Fuel economy is good, with some petrol models achieving 30mpg, while you can achieve 45mpg with a couple of the diesel versions.

The Ford Galaxy has been around since 2006 and initial reliability problems have been resolved. Although the Galaxy is roomy inside, if you do have seven adults in your group, and a lot of lugage, you will probably need to hire a roof box as well. You will not be disappointed if you hire a Galaxy, it’s a stylish and reliable people carrier that will not give you a moments trouble.
